Learning to Pitch: Remembering a summer with Bob Welch
“We met in what I thought were the mid-seasons of our lives, Bob and I, in the momentum of the summer, still full of promise. Each of us had been around enough bases to know how the hours get shorter. We had both found early success and then worked at reinventing ourselves. We had learned how to grab a moment and enjoy it. We were both eager to teach and hungry still to learn.”

The Consensual Hallucination
“One way to think of money is to use William Gibson’s famous description of cyberspace: a consensual hallucination. We accept it as payment because other people accept it as payment. We think that prices will be pretty stable because other people think that prices will be pretty stable. This takes us away from the mechanical quantity theory of money. Instead it suggests that there are multiple equilibria, one of which we happen to be experiencing. The behavior of prices is part of our consensual hallucination.”
